RSYS Enviromental Sustainability Committee News

John Taylor Chairman

2023 was a busy year for the Sustainability Committee with numerous projects adding to the club's environmental credentials including:

Installation of Solar Panels above the workshop roof providing about 5% of our power needs and introduction of recycle bins on the hardstand to make sorting and recycling of off boat rubbish easy.

As regulars to the CCA would know the instillation of the chilled still and sparkling water station provides a convenient source of table water and helps eliminate single use plastic water bottles.
A new water filling station on the hard stand has proven popular for crews to top up their water bottles pre / post sailing. You may also have seen our Squadron branded water bottles available for purchase from the bar and sailing office.

On the water, we have been encouraging sailors and volunteers to use refillable water bottles. There has also been encouragement to digitise race documentation, re think the use of Vinal bow stickers and encourage using 'useful' prizes such as gear bags rather than a mantlepiece trophy.

Our agenda for 2024 includes exploring additional solar energy opportunities, responsible disposal of excess food and improving air conditioning management to reduce our energy bills. Please contact reception ([email protected]), if you have an environmental initiative you would like us to consider.
