Rain couldn’t dampen Picnic Day

Natasha Miller writes, ‘Rain couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our sailors for our end of season Picnic Day last Sunday.

Five teams assembled in the Shell Cove room for a briefing on their mission: to follow the clues left by the dreaded pirate Mad Dog McMulligan and find the treasure hidden deep within the Squadron!

Then they piled into Pacers and set sail to Athol Bay, to collect a second clue and complete a sailing challenge.

A bit wet!

The first teams to launch were rewarded with a favourable breeze and a swift passage, but the final teams had to contend with gusts and glassy patches and also dodge the Classics from the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club (who looked suitably piratical lining up for their start).

Mika Docherty (boat 2) gallantly continued at the helm, after most of her crew walked the plank, and the team salvaged a 4th place due to their treasure hunting skills.

Some of the brave Tackers joined the day as well and had their first experiences on Pacers – Erik, Jayden, Cleo and Annie, who were presented with their end of season certificates from coaches Johann and Jameson.

The dinghy squads are on hiatus over the holidays, with some competing overseas and interstate, and others having a well-earned break. There will be an information evening about our Winter program in the coming weeks, so stand by.’
