NCYC Wins Round Two of Interclub Regatta

Round two of Interclub Challenge hosted by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (RSYS) on Sunday, June 4, witnessed a thrilling display of sailing skills and fierce competition among the participating clubs. Beginning early in the morning, race management oversaw six races with a fleet of eight Elliott 7 sportsboats.

Wind conditions were favourable for our young sailors, with a fresh 15 knot south-easterly breeze, dying and swinging east in the afternoon.

After an intense day on the water, the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (NCYC) emerged as the victors, showcasing their exceptional teamwork and sailing prowess.

The NCYC team, led by skipper Banjo and crewed by Noah, Tully, Sophie, and Arthur, demonstrated remarkable skill throughout the regatta, securing the top spot with their consistent performance and strong finishes.

Hot on their heels was the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) team, skippered by Jackson and crewed by Will, Ollie, Jonah, and Alfie. The CYCA team exhibited great determination and skill, earning them a well-deserved second place in the overall standings.

In third place overall was one of our home teams, skippered by Massimo and crewed by Lauren, Jack, Harriet, and Mika. Our second RSYS team skippered by Isobel with her team of Michael, Alex, Jack and Jessica closely followed in fifth place. Both teams demonstrated great determination and skill in navigating the challenging course with strategic decision making.

Skipper Massimo Henderson commented early in the day that his game plan was “to stick to the fundamentals.”

He said, “I want to keep the boat fast on the line at go, with speed, with a lane. We’ll just try and nail the simple start, and I think if we can do that really well, we’ll get a good result”.

With their consistent boat handling and impressive teamwork, they secured a spot on the podium, much to the delight of our RSYS community.

Well done to our sailors and good luck to all teams in round three, to be hosted by Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on Sunday 18 June.
