Close call in Squadron Main Series Pointscore

With just two Saturdays to go, only a handful of points separate the top yachts in the Main Series of all four mixed divisions racing with the Squadron, but in the one-design classes, the leaders are more clear-cut.

Last Saturday’s racing saw mixed handicap placing by the top placed boats and tactics will come into serious play in the final two races with handicap adjustments play a significant role. Final discard races will be important, too, in the outcome of several divisions.

Past America's Cup sailors and Rugby greats support Stepping Stone

Get together several sailors from the halcyon days of the America’s Cup,  plus a few rugby greats from the All Blacks and Wallabies, put them aboard yachts at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and you have the nucleus of another great Stepping Stone Regatta.

Add in strong support from the owners and crews of some 26 yachts, and the end result in early March was raising almost $60,000 on the day for Stepping Stone House at Dulwich Hill which provides a family structure for adolescents who are homeless.  A new project is directing them towards training and positive opportunities to enter the workforce.

Henry Tilly crowned RSYS Laser Club Champion

Congratulations to Henry Tilly who took first place in the Squadron's Laser Club Championship on the weekend. He was closely followed by Nicholas Wubben in second and Joris Meyboom in third place.

Lucinda Whitty wins Harken Women's International Match Race

Squadron member Lucinda Whitty and her ASDS team of Nina Curtis and Stacey Jackson claimed the 2010 Harken Women's Match Racing title on the weekend, defeating New Zealand's Samantha Osborne (RNZYS) 3-0 in Final.

Transfusion wins Farr 40 Australian Championship

After nine races over three days of racing in Sydney Guido Belgiorno- Nettis and the team on Transfusion have defended their 2009 title and won the 2010 Farr 40 Australian Championship.

“It’s been a privilege to sail against Estate Master and they have made us lift our game and we had to galvanize as a team.  You can never give up in this game, this fleet is very competitive and the competition is there this is why we are in this one design fleet”, said an ecstatic Belgiorno-Nettis as he accepted the trophy. He continued “I have to thank Tom (Slingsby) for putting us in the right spots and Bob (Wilmot) for getting the team together.  It’s great to have Brett and the White Cloud guys come over and sail again with the Australian fleet”.

Squadron's Lucinda Whitty wins Marinassesss Women's match race

Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron member Lucinda Whitty has won the Marinassess Women’s Match Racing Regatta in convincing style. She sailed faultlessly throughout the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s regatta last weekend without dropping a single race, to have her name engraved on the trophy for the second consecutive year.
