After a delay of 70 minutes, racing finally got under way in a light south-easterly breeze on Saturday to decide the winners of the Squadron’s Winter Series.

Sailing a shortened course in a 6-8 knot south-easterly breeze, all starters finished the final and deciding race for Divisions 1 and 2.  The IRC and the Non Spinnaker division winners had already been determined, but the placings in the Non Spinnaker division were also undecided going into the final race.

After winning the Polish Match Tour Act 1 in Szczecin, David Chapman continued to show a strong performance in the Match Tour Act 2 in Gdynia last weekend.

Competing against 11 teams from Germany, Italy, New Zealand and Poland in this ISAF Grade 3 rated event, Chapman finished the round robin in 4th place with a scorecard of 7 wins and 4 losses.

In the best out of three Semi Final he lost his first race against top rated Polish skipper Przemek Tarnacki but managed to score two wins in the following races that saw him progress in the Final.

In the best of three Final Chapman was up against Polish skipper Marek Stanczyk, currently ranked 45th in the world.

After winning the first race, the Polish team fought back with two wins to take the title and leaving Chapman in second place.

On his quest to enter the top 50 in the World Rankings, David will compete next in the RYA Youth Match Racing National Championships, hosted in August in Weymouth.
