Dutch crews first and second in International Yngling Worlds cliff hanger

Only three points today separated the first three boats at the end of a magnificent regatta on Sydney Harbour to decide the 2012 World Championship for the International Yngling one-design keelboat class, with victory going to defending champion, Maarten Jamin, from The Netherlands.

Jamin, a dual world champion in the three-crew keelboat,  finished with 40 points,  two points clear of fellow countryman Tom Otte on 42 points,  with one point to third placegetter, Australian champion Michael Nash on 43 points. Nash had led the series going into the final race.

Down to the line for International Yngling World Championship

Defending World champion Maarten Jamin from The Netherlands and Australian champion Michael Nash are equal on points going into tomorrow’s final two races of the International Yngling Open World Championships being conducted on Sydney Harbour by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron.

However, the Australia versus The Netherlands contest is not limited

to these two skippers.  Australia’s Hamish Jarrett is a close third, six points back and just one point ahead of Tom Otte, from The Netherlands. Any one of these four could end up the 2012 World champion in this one-design

keelboat class fleet of 45 boats.

Multi-skilled Nathan Outteridge gets official Olympic

Nathan Outteridge was riding the waves of Port Phillip on a foiler Moth this week when the Australian Olympic Committee formally announced that he and crew Iain Jensen would represent Australia in the 49er class at this year’s London Olympic Games.

The previous week he had been sailing another spectacular craft, an A-Class catamaran, in the national championships on his home waters of Lake Macquarie.

International Ynglings turn on one-design spectacle on Sydney Harbour

Another Australian,  Hamish Jarrett, has taken the overall lead in the International Yngling world championships midway through the regatta on Sydney Harbour, moving from fourth to first in the 47 boat fleet.

Jarrett, a two-times Australian champion, d his crew of Federica Lauro and Alan Bracken,  sailed to a third and first place on a day that Jarrett described as “a really hard day at the office” against strong international competition.

Nathan Outteridge wins 49er title at ISAF Sailing World Championships in Perth

Australian sailors have won two Gold medals on the final day of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron member Nathan Outteridge and and his crew Iain Jensen wrapped up the 49er title while Tom Slingsby won his fourth Laser World Championship in five years in emphatic style.

Outteridge and Jensen entered the final race with a 17 point lead over the Danish crew of Emil and Simon Toft Nielsen, knowing that they would walk away from Perth 2011 with at least a Silver medal.
