Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron's Keelboat Programs
Established in 2000, the Squadron Keelboat Program's mission is to develop a community of world-class keelboat sailors with the skills and knowledge to lead and support high-performance campaigns.
Today, both keelboat programs sit within a fully integrated sailing pathway:
Youth Dinghy Squads - Youth Keelboat Development Program - Match Racing Program
Each year the Squadron proudly hosts the Hardy Shield Open Regatta in November and the Hardy Cup U23 Regatta in February. Please visit our events & regatta page for further information.
Youth Keelboat Development Program
The Youth Keelboat Development Program offers a clear and supportive entry point into keelboat sailing for sailors aged 14–18 with a background in dinghy fleet or teams racing.
Designed to complement existing racing experience, the program focuses on translating small-boat technique → large-boat team dynamics.
Through structured weekly on-water sessions, exposure to club-level racing and the Inter-Club Fleet Racing Regatta, the program equips young sailors with the practical knowledge needed to begin their keelboat racing journey.

Match Racing Program
The Match Racing Program represents the premier pathway for aspiring sailors aged 18-25 with strong fleet racing background, who are seeking to excel in high-performance match racing and keelboat sailing. This program offers weekly on-water training sessions led by expert coaching within a world-class environment.
Along with participating in club fleet racing events, there will be a strong focus on preparing sailors for the opportunity to represent RSYS at a variety of state, national and international match racing events.

25+ Sailors
Members with established teams may request the use of the RSYS Elliot 7s or use their own keelboat (e.g. J/70, Etchells, Yngling, Dragon) when preparing for upcoming regattas and international campaigns.
