The Squadron Keelboat Program has hit the summer season in full stride. Two of our teams achieved great results at CYCA’s Captain John Piper regatta over the weekend and our full squad training on Monday took place on the TP52 Zen .
Jed Cruickshank and Maddie O’Shea skippered our two teams at the Captain John Piper regatta, the first match racing event since the lock-down in March. Both teams excelled in the qualifying round-robin: Jed won the series undefeated and Maddie placed third overall. The final series proved slightly more challenging but both teams finished strongly with Jed in fourth and Maddie seventh.
On Monday afternoon our sailors had the opportunity to train on RSYS Member Gordon Ketelbey’s TP52 Zen. Our sailors were given free rein with coach Nev Wittey helping coordinate them. Maddie and Jed were on the helm again, with Brooke Wilson as tactician, Xavier McLachlan on main and the other SKP sailors rotating through bow, kite trim and grinding. The entire squad thanks Gordon for an amazing afternoon and the opportunity to sail on such an extraordinary boat. This training session was part of the SKP management team’s initiative to help our Youth sailors gain big boat experience and highlight the different pathways in sailing.
The program is now preparing for a number of regattas later this year including the RSYS Christmas Cup. This event will take place on Monday 7 December 2020 from 16:30 – 20:00 and is open to all Club Members. More information and the notice of race will be released at the start of November.
