Magpie wins Etchells Milson Silver Goblets

Five twilight races were held last week in celebration of the 'Goblets" a history that goes back to 1971. The 21 boats competing in the event enjoyed tight competition with Magpie emerging as the victor.

Ben Lamb, skipper of Magpie writes, 'It’s been a very enjoyable week at the Milson Silver Goblets.

RSYS has done an incredible job over the years with this iconic regatta. Both on and off the water was seamless. The race committee was really impressive in what were at times very shifty conditions and somehow got away 5 excellent and fair races. Off the water it was a great time with food and drinks provided creating a community feel amongst the class which is really important to keeping the Etchells class strong.

Whilst it was fantastic to win it was even more rewarding to have 4 legends of our sport (John Bertrand, Paul Westlake, Noel Drennan, Gordon Maguire) fill in on different days over the week. Traveling big distances and giving up their time meant a lot and it was impressive to see how seamlessly the transition was each day and a pleasure to sail with them. A huge thanks to James Mayo for letting me use the Magpie so I could keep training while he’s away and also a massive thanks to North Sails for letting us test some exciting new sails. Our thanks also to Sail Racing for providing the prizes.'
