Day 1: The 2025 Hardy Cup is well underway with overall good conditions so far and a wonderful, sociable atmosphere. With a BBQ breakfast hosted by our fantastic Red Shirt volunteers each morning, the competitors are raring to go each day! "We were blessed with the perfect sailing conditions in Sydney Harbour on Day One of the Hardy Cup, blue skies and a nice Sou’east breeze. RNZYC skipper Ethan Fong and his Quest Racing Team made the most of it and came out undefeated for the day." - Charlie Alexander Day 2: "Sailors competed in the second round robin facing variable breeze ranging from 3-9 knots from the west, before a transition of breeze coming from the east at 11 knots. All teams will return tomorrow for the third round robin." - RSYS Sailor, Thomas Rees Day 4/ Finals: After an amazing third-round robin yesterday, this morning started with sail-offs for places 5-10 along with top contenders Josh Hyde (RNZYS), Ethan Fong (RNZYS), Ben Crafoord (CYCA) and James Hayhoe (RSYS) battling it out for the top four positions. The conditions were overcast, with a southerly 15-20 knots and the predicted rain was thankfully a no show. Competition was tight, and the final flight saw Josh Hyde return as the Hardy Cup Winner for the second consecutive year – congratulations. Special thank you to Lady Joan Hardy and Commodore Taylor for attending the presentation evening. A total of 289 races were completed during this International Match Racing regatta, and we would like to thank our professional, world class Race Committee for four sensational days of racing. We would also like to thank the dedicated umpires who have volunteered their time to be a part of this regatta. Special thanks to our Members who offered Billeting to the sailors from New Zealand, Western Australia and the USA. Your hospitality is critical to this event and we appreciate your generosity. Thanks also to our Red Shirt volunteers for their support in many areas during this regatta and to Andrew Lee, Darcie Collington & Charlie Alexander for the wonderful photographs captured throughout the event. - Vanessa, Academy Coordinator Finals Recap by RNZYS Coach, Zak Merton "Waitemata Racing has defended their 2024 Hardy Cup victory by overcoming RSYS’s James Hayhoe 3-1 in what turned out to be an epic final. They were joined on the podium by our the Mastercard Youth Training Programme team Quest Racing who would finish a credible 3rd after a well sailed week." Regatta Recap by Del Rey Yacht Club Skipper William Stratton writes - "My team and I were excited at this opportunity to sail in Australia. This was our first event outside of the United States, we have learnt a lot and hope to come back next year."
