The story of ‘The Tasman Map’

If you visit the Mitchell Library you can admire the magnificent marble mosaic of the Tasman Map. It is on public display for the first time in 10 years at the ‘Maps of the Pacific’ exhibition at the State Library.

Over a period of only 40 years from 1606 to 1644, the first map of Australia took shape. Find out how they acquired this cartographic treasure at a presentation by Ian Burnet, author of maritime history.
