RSYS hosts many regattas throughout the year, at local, State, National and World levels.
Hardy Cup Sydney International Regatta
9 – 13 May 2022
Donated by Sir James Hardy (Event Patron), an America’s Cup winner, World Champion, Olympic yachtsman, and prominent RSYS member, the Hardy Cup is one of Australia’s most prestigious match racing events and is aimed at further developing the match racing and tactical skills of youth sailors.
Since its inception in 2001, the Hardy Cup has been hotly contested by under 25’s teams and has maintained a World Sailing Grade 3 international event status. The previous winner of the event include David Gilmour, Adam Minoprio and Michael Dunstan,
Racing for the event is held over four days on the magnificent Sydney Harbour with the backdrop of the world-famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Further to this fantastic location, RSYS always provides a world-class Race Management and Umpire team to provide the best possible racing conditions.
The event is sailed in the Club’s fleet of Elliott 7s yachts and has previously received entries from across Australia and around the world, including Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden and USA.
Varuna Trophy Race

To be awarded to the winner of a special race contested by the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in each Division’s MAIN season’s PHS point score, including the Etchells, Yngling and Sportsboats mini regatta PHS series.
- First, Second and Third placegetters on PHS if more than 15 block entries;
- First, and Second placegetters on PHS if there were between 10 and 15 block entries;
- First place on PHS only if there were less than 10 block entries.

Open to boats from all Sydney Harbour clubs. Crews can compete in full female crew or female helm divisions as well as nominate spinnaker or non-spinnaker racing.

Etchells NSW Championship

Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and the Sydney Etchells Fleet are delighted to once again, host Etchells sailors for the NSW State Championship to be sailed on Sydney Harbour.
Despite the challenges of COVID we look forward to hosting a great regatta both on and off the water and we thank our sponsors Sentinel Risk Managers, North Sails and Sail Racing.

The intent of this regatta is for competitors to enjoy racing in boats with common performance limitations as set for Etchells Class boats. While crew weight will not be checked, the intent is that crew could have satisfied a 290 kg crew weight limit if they had prepared for a pre-regatta weight check.

A cordial invitation is extended to owners of all yachts to enter this historic event on Australia Day, Wednesday 26 January 2022 on the waters of Sydney Harbour. The Regatta will be organised by the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron on behalf of the Australia Day Regatta Management Committee.
