RSYS is excited to be hosting the first leg of the international SailGP tour on 15 - 16 February. Six national teams (including an Australian team) will be racing identical supercharged 50 foot catamarans engineered for intense racing at electrifying speeds in excess of 50 knots.
Racing will be held on Friday from 4pm till 6pm and on Saturday from 3pm to 5pm, with three races held each day. The course area is in the vicinity of Bradleys Head and Rose Bay.
The CCA will be open to Members and their guests offering breakfast, lunch and dinner on both Friday and Saturday. We encourage you to come to our Club and be part of the excitement.
The SailGP race boats will be moored off the Club immediately before and after racing each day; Members and guests are invited to get close to the competitors and join in the excitement of the docking off and celebrations post racing.
There will be large screen TVs in the clubhouse so you will not miss a minute of the action on water.
Should you wish to get out on the Harbour, there are several options available to you.
- From your own boat - The Club will be running a tender service. Please register with the SailGP Boater registration programme. Whilst the pond will be closed on Friday and Saturday, a ‘touch and go’ facility will be available on the inner arm to embark and disembark guests from your boat.
- Spectator Ferries - There are a range of spectator ferries offering catered and non catered options that can get you close to the action. Booking information on the spectator ferries can be found here.
- Shark Island - Viewing of the event is available each race day from Shark Island which is in the middle of the race area. The Club has arranged preferential pricing for RSYS members. To access this discount, use this access code SGP19VIP20. Click here to book your place on Shark Island.
Additionally RSYS has been offered a limited number of guided tours of the SailGP team bases on Cockatoo Island. The tours provide expert commentary of the teams' operations and preparations ahead of the event. We will arrange water taxis from the Club, cost TBC. Please send your expression of interst to firstname.lastname@example.org
Due to the disruption on the Harbour and the exclusion zones that will be in operation prior to and during the event, the RSYS Sailing Committee has cancelled racing on Friday 15 February and Saturday 16 February.
