Commodore Richard Chapman is in America with a top-notch team of Club sailors to participate in the The 2017 Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup. This Corinthian regatta runs from 9-16 September at the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court, in Newport, Rhode Island and includes 14 yacht clubs from eight countries from around the globe. After three races in a fresh southwesterly breeze, RSYS is coming second in the regatta.
Our helmsman is Guido Belgiorno-Nettis. He surprised local media commentators on the first day of practice on Saturday when he claimed he hadn't laid a hand on the wheel of a Swan 42 for two years and that his team hasn't spent a lot of time sailing together. Well that didn't stop our team from winning the first race and then adding a pair of thirds for a comfortable second place in the overall standings.
"It’s so nice to have a group of guys come together," said Belgiorno-Nettis. "They were all sailors for a long time, but we had hadn’t actually sailed together as a team. They just dug deep, and we figured out the way pretty quickly by the looks of things."
The RSYS crew comprises: Guido Belgiorno-Nettis (helm), Michael Dunstan (tactician), Michelle Belgiorno-Nettis, Christian Brook, Chris Cook, Simon Cunnington, David Edwards, Andrew Hutchinson, Greg O'Shea, Adam Roberts-Thompson and Ivan Wheen as crew.
