Hardy Cup Results

RSYS hosted the prestigious Youth Match Racing regatta the ‘Hardy Cup’ from 5-9 February. Ten teams from around Australia, as well as overseas, competed for four days. It was wonderful to see both familiar and new faces participating this year and a great indicator of the value that Youth Match Racing regattas bring to all those involved, both in the sense of skill development and the life-long friendships made.

We really enjoyed sailing against such a variety of people from so many different places, each bringing varying skills, not only from Match Racing but from other spectrums of sailing, which all added to the experience. The conditions for the week tested every team - we were dealt all four seasons of weather that week. The quality of racing was very high and competitive, and the opportunity we had to sail against some of the best Youth sailors around was priceless. As Sir James Hardy said at the prize giving ‘It is a tremendous pleasure to watch Australia’s future champions developing their skills on Sydney Harbour.’

The regatta was also a positive step forward for the RSYS Development Programme: the team finished 5th and only narrowly missed out on the Semis, going down 2-3 in the Quarter Finals against RPAYC. It was great preparation for the team’s New Zealand campaign where we will compete in Auckland and Wellington for the Nesspresso and Centreport regattas respectively.

Overall, the regatta was a huge success and a credit to all involved. It would not have been possible without Sir James Hardy facilitating the regatta, and everyone greatly appreciated his commitment, along with other Members who watched the regatta every day aboard his yacht. A huge thank you as well to the numerous ‘Red Shirt’ volunteers who were involved all day, every day, ensuring the competitors were comfortable and happy. Last but not least, thank you to the Squadron families who hosted Interstate and overseas teams.
