Next Saturday’s final pre-Christmas Harbour race will be the decider for the Squadron’s Spring Series 2013 in several divisions and one-design classes, although the winners are clear in one or two others.
The Spring Series attracted almost 90 entries across the board, including 30 International Etchells, and has seen intense competition.
Matt Whitnall’s Unami is a clear winner of the Etchells Spring Pointscore which ended last weekend. Next Saturday is a Mini Regatta for the class.
Second overall has gone to Alchemist (Richard Hammond), third to Dot (David Seaton). During the 21 races there were eight different race winners with consistency paying off for Unami.
Going into next Saturday’s last Spring Series race, I Super (Peter Campbell) has a seven point lead in Division 1 from Equiknox (John Molyneux), with Jackie Clare (Geoff Davidson) a further four points back in third place.
Saturday’s race certainly will decide the Spring Series winner in Division 2, with Peter Davenport’s Arcturus 3 on 31.2 points, Alouette (John Waring) on 34.5 points, Jessica Rabbit (Bruce Millar) and Campeador (Jonathan Threlfall) both on 36 points.
Robert Albert’s Norn has a comfortable margin from L’Eau Co (Grant Pollock) and John Jeremy’s Tingari in Division 3.
In Division 4, a string of top placings in the past five races, including three wins, has taken Beowulf (Stafford Watts) to the top the Spring Pointscore, but only two points clear of David Smith’s Til the Fat Lady Sings. Kirsten II (Ken Chase) is third overall.
Consistency has given Liquidity (Richard Franklin) a commanding points lead in the International Dragon Spring Pointscore. Abracadabra (Nicholas Hogg) is second overall, just ahead of Ascalon (Jim Hawkins).
In the International Yngling class, Miss Pibb (Hamish Jarrett) has an almost unbeatable lead from Evie (Karyn Gojnich) and Shining Star (Chris Harper). Peter Campbell
