Walter Reeks – his yachts and sailing craft
Squadron Member David Payne recently retired as the Curator of Historic Vessels at the Australian National Maritime Museum. As part of his wide-ranging work and research he has collected considerable information on Australia’s first professional Naval Architect, Walter Reeks (1851 -1925).
Reeks designed a diverse range of private and commercial craft over almost five decades of work in Sydney and he was a prominent RSYS Member too. David will focus this presentation on the many yachts and sailing craft he designed, including significant yachts for Members and a proposed challenge for the America’s Cup in 1889.
This event will take place in the Carabella Room, followed by dinner in the CCA – advance reservations are essential.
