Cruising Division Dinner ‘Arctic Cruising’

Presentation

The Cruising Division has invited Hugo van Kretschmar to give an illustrated presentation about his fascinating journey aboard the converted 60’ Tasmanian cray fishing boat ‘Ada Hardy’.

Hugo and his wife Karen started from Sydney in 2008 and have since travelled more than 30,000nm, meandering their way across the globe. In late 2019 they cruised the fjords of Norway to well north of the Arctic Circle (including a mid-winter cruise!) and then across to the spectacular Faroe Islands, Iceland, and finally the rarely visited and mostly ice-bound coast of East Greenland.

If you are sweltering in the January heat – cool off amid the icebergs at this fascinating event!

This event will take place in the Carabella Room and includes a formal two course dinner.
ALL Members are welcome.

Our Speaker

Hugo van Kretschmar hails from Sydney, is a well known racing and cruising yachtsman and is known to many as former Commodore of the CYCA. Hugo is a civil engineer and self-employed property developer ‘who works just hard enough to live my dreams.’ He says he has been passionate about boats and boating his entire life, having raced thousands of miles in all sorts of sailboats from one-design dinghies to maxi ocean racing yachts. Yet he declares, ‘I have always preferred to cruise in passage-maker
motor yachts – as long as they are made of wood!’
