Squadron Keelboat Program 2020/2021

SKP Overview

The RSYS  Squadron Keelboat program (SKP) was founded in 2000 and provides the opportunity for youth sailors aged 13 – 23 years to become involved in keelboat racing at a state, national and international level. The program also places a significant emphasis on assisting sailors in getting onto larger yachts to compete in the RSYS summer and winter seasons including the offshore series.

Open to both members and non-members, the program utilises the Squadron’s fleet of Elliott 7s sports boats and other Squadron owned vessels to develop the sailors’ boat handling skills to an advanced level. The program is coached by Nev Wittey a previous America’s Cup skipper and Olympian and supported by the SKP management team of Zac Quinlan, Angus Stranack, and RSYS Captain Karyn Gojnich.

The SKP is comprised of two squads: the junior squad and the senior squad. The junior squad is targeted at dinghy sailors (13 - 18 yrs old) or previous participants of RSYS keelboat camps and introduces the sailors to keelboat racing at a state level. The senior squad is targeted at sailors (17 - 23 yrs old)who are currently competing at a national level in either dinghies or keelboats and aims to provide them with opportunities to compete at international keelboat events including on the Youth Match Racing Circuit.
