SEPTEMBER SAILING IN TAHITI
Tahiti is tropical and the wet season is our summer. The best sailing seasons are the spring and the autumn although really there are only two seasons - wet and dry. The driest month is September, when statistically rain is recorded on nine days, compared with 21 in January. Day temperatures in September run in the mid to high 20s while the water temperature is typically 25°C. >> read more
TWO HULLS BETTER THAN ONE IN TAHITI
There are only two marinas in the Leeward Islands of Tahiti and they are next to each other at the airport on Raiatea. Thus the sailing catamaran comes into its own. Two hulls, a cabin at each corner of the two hulls and ensuite facilities for each cabin. At anchor every night the cat points at the breeze and the air flows through the boat. TAHITI YACHT RALLY IMPRESSIONS
Squadron members Peter and Jenny McConnell participated in the 2017 Tahiti Yacht Rally. "We really enjoyed the relatively low key racing. Our Catana 55, a catamaran with square top main, two rolling head sails and retractable dagger boards was pretty fast. The wind was consistently in the high teens and low 20s and boat speeds in the 10s and 11s were not uncommon. The races were a good mix of blue water sailing between islands and smooth water sailing in the mostly deep lagoons. >> read more
