Dinghy Squads

Try Dinghy Sailing at RSYS!

To give sailors a taste of our fantastic dinghy sailing program, we have set up ‘Try Dinghy Sailing’ days at the Club.
For those who have completed the Tackers Training, our Optimist Green Fleet Transition Group is the next step in the pathway. For sailors who have completed the OutThere Teen Sailing course, the next step is to jump into our 2 person Pacer dinghies.
Upon arrival, our friendly coaches will introduce you to the dinghies before heading out on the water for the try sailing session.

The next Try Dinghy Sailing day will be scheduled for the start of the Summer Season. Details TBA.
If you are interested in joining the Dinghy Squads Program at the Squadron, please send us an email: academy@rsys.com.au

Parents are welcome to utilise the Cafe in the CCA during sailing.

Meeting Place:
Our coaches will meet you under the flag pole on the lawn next to the Clubhouse.
We look forward to having you join us at the Club!

RSYS wouldn’t be the great club it is without our volunteers. Click here for a handbook on volunteering at RSYS.

There are a range of courses held at the Squadron to help upskill our volunteers, such as Powerboat, Race Officer, and First Aid courses.  Click here to see upcoming courses held at the Squadron.

The RSYS Dinghy Squads Program

Our program provides coaching and racing sessions for sailors in Optimists (Green Fleet and Open), Lasers (4.7, Radial and Full Rig), and Pacers.

Dinghy sailing is open to all members and the laser squad is a great place to sharpen your sailing skills in a fun and competitive environment.

Our Dinghy Squads

Optimist Squad – Green Fleet is suitable for sailors who have completed the Tackers ‘Learn to Sail’ Program. Sailors can start off in the ‘Transition’ fleet using one of the Club’s Tackers Opti’s.
Optimist Squad – Open Fleet is best suited to sailors who are confident on the water in their own boat.
Laser Squad is for those sailors who have moved on from the Optimist and are looking for the next step along their sailing pathway.
Pacer Squad is a new initiative launched by the Squadron and focuses on developing sailors skills in a double-handed class, this includes spinnakers, teams racing and match racing.

Registration for the Dinghy Squads Program is open to all eligible RSYS Members. If you are interested in becoming a Member of RSYS, take a look at the RSYS Membership Information Brochure.

Following registration through Revsport, sailors also need to register their boat for the Dinghy Racing Series through Sailsys. Entry into the Dinghy Racing Series (racing held within the program) is inclusive in the Dinghy Squads Program registration.

For more information on eligibility, session times, and further program details, take a look at the Notice of Program below.

Squad Holiday Camps

We run a variety of camps for our Dinghy Squad sailors throughout the year. The RSYS Summer Camp is our major annual camp, held at Point Wolstoncroft in January, more details below.

For the other school holiday camps (April, July, September), sailors are separated into their fleets; Optimist Green Fleet, Optimist Performance, Pacers, and Laser Performance (group viability subject to numbers). For these camps, there are a variety of fun/skill-based activities suitable to the sailor’s ability.
Lunch will be provided for all sailors with the choice of a burger, fish & chips, or a salad, as well as a gelato!! After lunch, we will go over some rigging tips, before jumping on the water.
