RSYS hosted the Farr 40 National Championship on 10-12 March. The event marked the end of a great season for the Farr 40 class. There were eight entries this year, representing both NSW and VIC, with each boat bringing an abundance of experience and skill to Sydney Harbour.
Over the three days, eleven races were completed, with Friday and Sunday’s races held inshore, and Saturday’s offshore. The weather conditions for the championship fluctuated, but PRO Rob Ridley and his team did a great job to get eleven races in. Racing was very close throughout the event, with boats generally only a few points apart.
The overall winner was the well deserving Estate Master – Martin & Lisa Hill, with a very stressful deciding last race. Coming into the last race Estate Master had a six-point lead, a nice buffer zone you would think. However, on their first upwind, their genoa halyard broke and they slipped into last place. Proficient crew work enabled a quick fix, and they were able to make their way up to fourth at the finish. Congratulations to Martin & Lisa Hill from Estate Master and the crew on the win! Also a big congratulations to Jeff Carter from Edake and the crew, who took out the Corinthian title.
