Welcome to Division 2

Division 2 is a highly competitive fleet looking forward to another spring and summer of exceptionally close yacht racing on the Harbour.

This mixed spinnaker division has a core fleet of 10 yachts from 36’ to 40’ with handicaps around 1.000 and provides tight competition. Within the division is a sub group of J35s who also compete strongly against each other.  We would welcome any similar classes of size/performance who do not have enough yachts to form their own division.

The fleet is joined by about 10 Short Inshore Series yachts on alternative Saturdays and all yachts on those days are included in the SIS results and prizes.

Included within the Squadron series are the 8 Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club races with their own additional pointscore and trophies presented at the annual RPEYC prizegiving at that club.

The courses are similar to, but shorter than, division 1 and are about 14 miles including some to Manly, and all offer opportunity for sailing skill, navigation, practice of the racing rules and ferry avoidance planning.

In 2006/07, following consistent performances and very close finishes, the Main Season was won by Arctuus II with 8 firsts followed by Ambitious and Williama. The Short Inshore Series was won by J Force followed by Arcturus II and Limelight and the RPEYC  series was won by Arcturus II followed by Williama and Ambitious.

Many competitors return to the RSYS Careening Cove terrace after racing to discuss each other’s tactical skills, and potential competitors are welcome to join in these discussions or to contact the Sailing Office or Division representative John Waring on 0411 781 999 or email jwarings@gmail.com
