This year’s recipient of the Joanne Trophy as RSYS Yachtswoman of the Year is Gwenyth Taylor.

Gwenyth’s contribution to sailing at the Squadron commenced in June 2002, when she joined the RSYS Youth Sailing Committee. For 4 years she worked tirelessly to promote youth sailing within the club. She was responsible for the management of Youth sailing handicaps, results, point scores, regattas and was sailing office liaison.
Moving on, she was actively involved in race management for many years, and the driving force in re-establishing the Ladies Tuesday Twilight Series providing competition for women in a competitive but friendly environment. After 3 years the fleet has grown to 25 boats.
Earlier this year she assisted in the establishment of a Ladies sailing program to support the growth of women’s sailing at the Squadron. It has provided a comfortable environment for women to learn to sail and develop their sailing skills.
Gwenyth has sailed competitively for many years, rarely missing a Wednesday afternoon on Swish, a Thursday twilight on Hang Ten, a Friday twilight on Margaret Rintoul, or a Ladies twilight on Tuesdays. She has completed in Hamilton Island race week for the past 4 years, and in many offshore races on Swish and Sorcerer culminating in her first Sydney to Hobart race in 2006 on Fidelis.
Her passion is in providing an environment for other women to become independent sailors, and to share the undeniable joy of sailing.
