Jordan Reece and his team from the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron have finished third overall in the Club Marine NSW Youth Match Racing Championship after being leading crew going into the semi-finals.
Conducted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia over the weekend, the championship was sailed in light breezes, with Reece finishing the first stage round-robin with six wins, one behind the CYCA’s defending champion Jay Griffin.
However, Reece outsailed Griffin in stage two to finish top team and in a position to select his semi-final opponent. He chose third placed Tim Forbes-Smith, also from the CYCA, but lost the semi-final in an upset result.
Griffin went on to win his semi-final against Ashlen Rooklyn (CYCA) and in the grand final scored a comfortable victory over Forbes-Smith. Reece won the petit final in two tight races against Rooklyn.
The Squadron’s other crew, skippered by Jaiden Stevens, finished sixth overall. Detailed results: www.cyca.com.au/editorial.asp?key=1539
