The Yngling NSW State Championships 2009 over the weekend 7-8 November brought a win for Hamish Jarrett, Federico Lauro and Alana Bracken in their new boat Miss Pibb.
Saturday brought moderate breeze with patchy conditions requiring continuous
gear changes.
Light and shifty conditions characterized Sunday. The Championship win
wasn't determined until the very end. Both Miss Pibb (AUS-8) and Uncanny
(AUS-25) controlled each other on the last race until Uncanny was forced to
tack away to avoid another boat. With both boats on equal footing; a count back with 3 first place wins decided the title in Jarrett and Lauro's favor. Mel Nathan and Michael Nash's Uncanny finished with nine points after six heats. Third place went to Jordon and Alan Reece with Meridian on 15 points. The final tally for Miss Pibb was 1-3-3-1-4-1 vs. a scorecard for Uncanny of 2-1-2-3-2-2.
Hamish Jarrett and Federico Lauro are running a 3-boat training campaign
with the help of their sponsor Jarrett Jewellery. They have their sights set on first defending their 2009 Sydney Harbor Audi Regatta victory, then the World Championships 2010 in Holland and finally the World Championships 2012 in Sydney. Jarrett, the NSW and Australian Champion said, "Nathan and Nash are tough competitors, they put in a great fight." Federico Lauro, former Italian National Champion said, "It was really an honor to sail against such talent on the water. You're only as good as your best competition, so it really great to see the whole class growing."
