Commodore Bill Wood and co-owner Peter Chapman scored a fine Division 1 victory in their Beneteau 40.7 Kookaburra III in the Squadron’s Spring Series on Saturday.
Sailing in a light and tricky east-north-easterly breeze, Kookaburra III finished sixth in fleet and on corrected time scored a comfortable two minute win from Willyama (R Barron/S Sanlorenzo/T Stanley) and Ian MacDiarmid’s Hell Razor.
Under IRC handicaps, Division 1 went to Peter Campbell’s Sydney 36CR, ISuper, by just 21 seconds from Hell Razor, with another three seconds to Tony Coleman’s Euphoria.
Only four boats turned out for Division 2, with Campeador, Jonathan and Mary Threlfall’s Jeanneau Sunfast 36, taking line and handicap honours from Arcturus II (Peter Davenport) and alouette (John Waring.
Division 3 also produced close results, with just over a minute separating the first four boats on corrected times. Winner was Fast Forward, Roman Tarnawsky’s Young 88, second went to Mingara III (Philip Crane) and third to Zeus II (Jim Dunstan).
Division 4 continues to be tight tussle for the Spring Series, with Saturday’s results leaving the Bonbridge 27 Hornblower (Peter Campbell & Steve Sweeney) leading the pointscore by just two points from Therapy (Tom Cehak) and Brother Hood (Tony Craven & Jack Rigg). Saturday’s race went to Wyreepi Too (Struan & Ian Robertson) from Brother Hood and Hornblower while Therapy placed eighth,
The International Etchells fleet continues its strength, with 25 boats turning out for the club championship race won by Bushfire (Jervis Tilly) from Two Speed (Nigel Nattrass & John Dunn) and Yarrawa (Tony Brown).
Both the Dragon and Yngling fleets were low in numbers, Carl Ryves winning the Dragons in Sidewinder, Jarrett Jewellery (Hamish Jarrett) first home in the Ynglings.
