2nd June 2008

Competitors in last Saturday’s Winter Series had to wait an hour and a half for the wind to fill in sufficiently for a start, but it was worth the wait – a light breeze that saw all but one boat complete the shortened course.
While the casual entry Short Wave, skippered by Matthew Short, scored a runaway line honours win in Division 1, she ended up only 9th on corrected time. However, the top three corrected time results were close in two of the divisions.
In Division 1, Jonathan and Mary Threlfall’s Campeador won by just 18 seconds from Ray Harris’ Honeysuckle, with Ellipse (Brian Bergin) just 44 seconds back in third place.
The two placings in Division 2 were even closer, just 11 seconds separating
Lahaina II (Len Burtenshaw) and Cool (Phillip Oduard).
Petite Bateau (Andrew Mathers and Al Chase) got the gun in Division 2 but placed third on corrected time, 58 seconds astern.
The margins were wider in Division 3, Caroline La Douce (Graeme Smith/Peter Jones/Gregory Clark) winning from Crackajack (D Galvin/Chris Harper/D Weir) and Tallawonga (Christopher Deane).
There will be no Winter Series racing this coming long weekend.
