With two races to sail, former Olympic sailor Carl Ryves is the clearest of winners in the Squadron’s Main Series for the 2008-2009 sailing season on Sydney Harbour.
Sailing his International Dragon class yacht Sidewinder, the same name of the Flying Dutchman that he and Dick Sargeant sailed in the Mexico Olympics, Carl (with Dick still as a crew member) has notched up a remarkable 13 wins and is currently on 23 points after discards.
The next best boat in the fleet is David Seaton’s Abracadabra on 54 points while Tatsu (Wolf Breit) is on 73 points.

In contrast, only two points separate Senta (Terry & Julie Clarke) and Bloodhound (A Rodger & M Shaw) on 57 and 59 points, in Division , with John Jeremy’s Tingari third overall on 70 points.
A fourth place in Division 1 last Saturday by Willyama (R Barron/S Sanlorezo/T Stanley) has helped consolidate her position overall against nearest rival Sydney (Charles Curran) which placed 9th. With two races to sail, Willyama is on 69 points, Sydney on 75 and third placegetter Jackie Claire (Geoff & Debbie Davidson) on 77 points.
Consistent sailing over the summer season has given Peter Edwards’ Gondwana a buffer of eight points from Peter Davenport’s Arcturus II in Division 2. A distant third overall is Allegro (John Taylor).
The much-sailed Kerstin II, owned by John Bowman, Ken Chase & Julius Gold, is lining up for yet another Main Series victory in Division 4, currently five points clear of Brother Hood (Tony Craven & Jack Rigg). Third overall is Esquisse 2 (Richard Staines).
Shindig (David Sturrock) is unbeatable in the Main Series for the International Etchells, with 36 points against the 65 of QRS (Ian Kingsford-Smith & Alastair Stone) and the 68 of North Sydney Station (Ed & Will McCarthy and Michael Coxon).
Also unbeatable is Hamish Jarrett in his International Yngling Pourquoi with a net pointscore of 39 points, against Gary Pearce in Black Adder on 46 and Yertle (James Hawkins & Andrew Howe) on 57 points.
The Squadron’s Short Ocean Pointscore for Division 3 boats has been completed, with overall first place going to King Billy (Phil & Elese Bennett) with 17 points, from John Maclurcan’s Morag Bheag on 23 points and Double Trouble (Steve Wyatt) on 30 points.
